Fens consist of a diverse patchwork of natural wetland habitats (including wet meadows and sedge meadows). The vegetation, which can be lush, tall and green, is in constant contact with the water and draws essential nutrients from it. Numerous species of flora and fauna, many of which are threatened, live interdependently in this environment.
Notable species: Bicoloured sedge (Carex bicolor) and common frog (Rana temporaria).
